Where do you look when you are a victim of racial profiling?
Do you keep your gaze towards an officer or do you try to avoid eye contact? There isn’t a clear answer because both options can lead to suspicion.
What can we do to help each other and to minimize racial profiling?
This is a problem alright. It is happening here in Canada too. Here, they have a process called “carding”. It is just plain wrong. The way things are going, I certainly wouldn’t challege an officer, they are just too trigger happy. If I were you, I would stand tall, looking straight ahead army style and “yes sir” ” no sir”. I’m not black and even I am terrified of the police. What does that say about our society? Civil rights have taken a big hit and we are going to have to work hard and smart to make changes.

I haven’t heard the term “carding” before during my experience in Canada. I have read up on it and it seems to be a problem in Toronto. Maybe western Canada is a little different but the process of carding is unacceptable. Reminds me of NYPD issuing out receipts for stops. I never knew this existed, thank you for bringing it up, I definitely agree that smart changes need to be made.

Shane, our new mayor(Mayor Tory of Toronto) has spoken out against this. The police build a dosier on individuals. They don’t have to be doing anything wrong. This is what they did in Nazi Germany. There is a lot of opposition to it. Hopefully, we can stop this.
The problem in the USA is much worse. People are being killed. You have to get your heads together and maybe make this an issue in your upcoming election.

I am sure that there will be change soon. There will be the federal voting in less than a month and a half. Hopefully something will happen there.

There’s a strong possibility that we will “throw the bums out”. In Canada, when society starts going down this road we do tend to get rid of problem (politically at the ballet box). Can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it!
