What’s Your Perception of Canada? – Canada Day

Happy Canada Day!

Some people view Canada as the European version of America while others refer to Canada only on economic terms.

With that being said, everyone has a different perception of Canada. Most studies and surveys indicate Canada as a positive nation but things are starting to change due to political sanctions and foreign deals.

What is your perception or thoughts on Canada? Good and bad opinions are welcomed.

  1. I love Canada; it is a huge, diverse country, chock-full of natural resources. But that is not why Canada has a special place in my heart. I lived in Canada for a year and my grandparents live there, every experience I have had in Canada has been memorable and enjoyable.

    Well, Canada narrowly winning the gold medal in hockey in the 2010 winter Olympics over the USA wasn’t enjoyable. I was living in Canada at the time and everyone teased me horribly. I still have deep emotional scars 🙂

  2. I am biased, of course, because I have been born and raised here in Canada. When I travel I am proud to say where I am from. I love that we are humble, honest, supportive and good natured people as a nation. I love that we are diverse and cultural. I worry often that the best things about this country will disappear…

    1. We’re off to a great start but I’ll believe it’s only a matter of time before we become Americanized. The population is still around 36 million, that’s still less than the population of California so we’re safe.

  3. I was born in Canada as were my parents and their parents before them (and for several genertions before them). I identify with nowhere else as a homeland. We’ve been an open and tolerant country but over the last few governments we have changed from being peace keeps to becoming warriors. Our government has aligned itself with big business at the expensence of our democratic principles our health and the direction of our economy. People no longer bother to vote because their vote has no say in what goes on. We are definitely going down the wrong path.

    1. I definitely agree with our government changing our identity. Hopefully things change for the better. We also need to start and help younger generations to vote and become part of the electoral process. In the meantime, happy Canada day 🙂

  4. I was born in the UK and family emigrated to New Zealand. Back then everyone ‘recognised’ Canada as ‘the peacekeepers’. I’ve lived here in Canada over a decade now and I’d have to say that is not the first thing that comes to mind. Beautiful country though 🙂

  5. I agree strongly with the need to advocate for preserving our national identity and getting all generations involved in governing the country by active participation. One barrier I keep running into is the crazy human fact of so many different personalities and opinions… It takes forever to get things done because we don’t agree and most people lose heart or focus or enthusiasm. It’s important to keep the momentum and the the conversation going!

  6. Hmmm, an interesting one. I guess I view it as more European than America. Being so far away, I am less familiar with its politics (but realising that, will make an effort to read up more!!) and mostly view it through scenery. Beautiful and dramatic landscapes and colours.
